7th MaaS Summit: Building Together Green and Sustainable MaaS

On Monday 11th of October 2021, the 7th MaaS Summit ‘Building Together Green and Sustainable MaaS’, organised with the Finnish Ministry of Transport and Communications, brought together leading mobility industry leaders from all continents. Moderator Liselotte Lyngso welcomed everyone to the 7th MaaS Summit by introducing the speakers and emphasising the fantastic feeling of finally having a physical meeting again. Following Liselotte’s introduction, Jacob Bangsgaard, President at the MaaS Alliance, shared his welcoming remarks and highlighted the interconnected developments in Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) and Mobility as a Service.

Mr Timmo Harraka, Minister of Transport and Communications, at the Finnish Ministry of Transport and Communications, held the first speech and emphasised the importance of collaboration. The second speech by Matthew Baldwin, Deputy Director-General of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Transport and Mobility, presented on behalf of Adina Valean, Commissioner of Transport from the European Commission, shared the same thoughts and highlighted that many initiatives will be published by the European Commission to achieve the European Green Deal and beyond.

Moving forward, the panel discussion with Joachim Reinboth, Co-Head of Automotive & Mobility Services at BNP Paribas CIB, and Boyd Cohen, CEO of Iomob continued the debate on the topic of MaaS and transport decarbonisation. They stressed the importance of continuing working on the proposition to shift the mentality from owning a car to sharing cars, including the car industry’s transformation from Bio to EV to Sharing. By the end of the discussion, they identified the need to create a fair level playing field between private and public to shift toward decarbonisation.

The second panel, including Mr Baldwin, Elina Ojala, Environmental Director of the City of Lahti and Sylvia Fischer, Vice President of Smart Mobility at FreeNow discussed the active modes as part of the integrated mobility and MaaS.
