During its last plenary meeting on 16 January the Commission Expert Group on Urban Mobility (EGUM) adopted its first set of recommendations to the European Commission, primarily influenced by the recent work of the EGUM members on public transport and shared mobility. The recommendations focus on three main topics: 1) how to ensure prioritization of public transport in urban areas; 2) how to increase public transport inclusiveness and 3) how to deal with the worker shortage and evolving skill requirements of the public transport sector. These documents are now available here. The next set of targeted recommendations related to urban public transport, to be issued in the coming months, will address optimal ways of complementing public transport with shared mobility solutions as well as the financing landscape and long-term sustainability of the sector.
The expert group is also working on various other topics relevant to urban mobility for which recommendations will be delivered throughout the year, such as: urban vehicle access regulations; sustainable urban mobility planning, monitoring and implementation; urban logistics; active mobility and safety of vulnerable road users; and the future of urban mobility and inclusive and sustainable urban space.
