18 February 2020 – Today during the Plenary meeting in Antwerp, Piia Karjalainen was appointed Secretary General of the MaaS Alliance, the global public-private partnership for Mobility as a Service (MaaS) based in Brussels. She brings 15 years of experience in the mobility sector with a focus on strategic planning, transport, climate and energy policies, and EU regulations. Before joining ERTICO as Senior Manager for the MaaS Alliance, she worked for the European Parliament and the Finnish Ministry of Transport and Communications.
She started working at the MaaS Alliance in 2017 setting the basis and the strategy that brought the organisation to the current leading role within the industry.
“I am very happy for Piia’s new appointment; the MaaS Alliance has become a global player with almost 100 members from Europe, North America and Asia-Pacific regions. She will continue her remarkable work in driving force to grow and develop Mobility as Service with the support of the members”. Says Jacob Bangsgaard, ERTICO’s CEO and MaaS Alliance President.
As Secretary General, Piia will ensure the global growth of the Alliance, building the real-life conditions for thriving Mobility as a Service ecosystem as well as continuing to be the voice of the Alliance members for the successful implementation and take-up of MaaS in Europe and beyond.
“I am excited to continue to work with this global community of visionary thinkers and doers. The atmosphere and collaborative attitude that I’ve experienced in the MaaS Alliance is unique and truly impressive. This cooperation is exactly what we need in an environment where a common vision and strategic public-private-partnerships are key for the success. In the forthcoming years we will continue working together with and for our members and important stakeholders, including the European Commission, as well as international partners to support the mobility sector in this transformation, where there are still a lot of challenges but also so much rewards, for users, societies and the industry.”
