Emirates Transport joins the MaaS Alliance

Emirates Transport (ET), a federal government corporation with financial and administrative independence under the umbrella of Emirates Investment Authority, is the newest member of the MaaS Alliance. Although famed as being the largest school transport provider in the UAE, Emirates Transport witnessed great business growth and service diversification during its 37-year journey. With a fleet size of above 35000 and still growing, Emirates Transport is a regional leader in Ground transportation. Future of Urban mobility is MaaS and stepping into the MaaS community is important for Emirates Transport to align with the long-term strategies.

Feryal Tawakul, executive director of Support Services Division at ET, said that the Corporation earned membership through its extensive presence in the transport market in the country, and its long and diversified operational experience in the fields of school, commercial, government and logistic transport, in addition to its achievements in adopting smart systems and the latest technologies in the transport sector. Tawakul explained that the next stage after membership requires developing the necessary processes, procedures and policies, providing the required technical infrastructure and updating existing smart applications and services at ET.

Mobility as a Service (MaaS) is the integration of various forms of transport services into a single mobility service accessible on demand. To meet a customer’s request, a MaaS operator facilitates a diverse menu of transport options, be they public transport, ride-, car- or bike-sharing, taxi or car rental, or a combination thereof. For the user, MaaS can offer added value through use of a single application to provide access to mobility, with a single payment channel instead of multiple ticketing and payment operations. For its users, MaaS should be the best value proposition, by helping them meet their mobility needs and solve the inconvenient parts of individual journeys as well as the entire system of mobility services.

The ultimate aim of the MaaS Alliance is to combine multiple transport options into a single, seamless, effortless, borderless and on-demand ecosystem for advanced, user-oriented mobility services, for both passengers and goods. To this end, it brings together all players in the transport ecosystem: public authorities, system integrators and mobility service providers (both start-ups and well-established ones).
