Accelerating action for inclusive mobility – Women’s Day 2025

Mobility is a fundamental right, yet transport systems around the world remain unequal. From safety concerns to accessibility barriers, mobility often fails to serve everyone equally. This International Women’s Day, under the theme Accelerating Action, MaaS Alliance is calling for bold steps toward an inclusive, user-centric mobility ecosystem.

Beyond closing gender gaps: rethinking mobility for everyone

Historically, transport networks have been designed around traditional commuting patterns, prioritising efficiency over inclusivity. But mobility is more than just moving from A to B; it’s about creating accessible, safe, and seamless journeys for all users, regardless of gender, ability, or socio-economic background.

Dagmara Wrzesińska, a Board Member of InterMobility, highlights the urgency of change: “InterMobility is committed to fostering diversity in the transport industry. Last year, we launched a report with policy recommendations to promote gender balance in mobility. But our vision extends beyond closing gender gaps—we must create a future where mobility is not only seamless but truly inclusive, designed for everyone. The more diverse the decision-makers, the better our cities will be. I applaud those working tirelessly to ensure that urban spaces are designed for all, not just for the privileged few.”

The power of representation in mobility standards

Inclusivity isn’t just about policies, it’s about the very foundation of how we design mobility services. This includes the data and standards that shape our transport systems. If these frameworks are built without diverse perspectives, they risk reinforcing existing inequalities.

Tu-Tho Thai, Director of TT&J and an expert in mobility data standardisation emphasizes that “an inclusive mobility ecosystem starts with all perspectives in the room, especially when it comes to building data standardization for all. Standards shape how we describe our mobility services, they cannot be done without everybody being represented.”

Turning words into action

MaaS Alliance is committed to driving this transformation by ensuring inclusivity is embedded into every aspect of mobility, from policy frameworks to digital infrastructure and urban planning. As we move toward an Open Mobility Ecosystem, we must push for representation at every decision-making level, rethink data structures to include all users, and actively remove barriers that prevent equitable access to mobility.

“We, as the MaaS Alliance, feel privileged and inspired to work with many talented women on innovative mobility solutions to create user-centric services to address everyone’s needs. Their leadership, dedication and creative thinking are transforming the sector towards a more diverse and inclusive mobility ecosystem”, Iuliia Skorykova, MaaS Alliance Operations Manager.

This Women’s Day, we celebrate the individuals and organisations leading this change. But celebration alone is not enough. We need action. Let’s accelerate progress toward a future where mobility serves everyone, not just the few. Because true innovation happens when we build a transport system that works for all.
