MaaS Alliance to Support the Development of Mobility as a Service in Collaboration with ITS America

COPENHAGEN – The MaaS Alliance, the international Mobility as a Service association hosted by ERTICO – ITS Europe, today penned a partnership with ITS America. Both parties agreed to share global best practices in MaaS and to work together in order to avoid duplication of work, when supporting the broad implementation of Mobility as a Service and Mobility on Demand.

“Mobility as a Service has been such a success in Europe and beyond because people want smarter and more customised mobility solutions. The whole MaaS movement has its roots within the international ITS community and now the MaaS Alliance is excited to partner with ITS America as it embarks on a similar journey in the United States,” said Jacob Bangsgaard, CEO of ERTICO – ITS Europe and the President of the MaaS Alliance.

The MaaS Alliance was established as a European initiative 3 years ago, in conjunction with the ITS World Congress in Bordeaux in 2015. Since then Mobility as a Service has picked up traction globally and this collaboration is a next natural step for MaaS Alliance to facilitate the wide development of this promising mobility model and the ecosystem around it.

ITS America has recently established the Mobility on Demand (MOD) Task Force to promote an innovative, customer-focused approach to transportation that leverages technology, mobility services, real-time data, transit and intelligent transportation systems to provide improved mobility options for all. The establishment of this task force, and now also the newly announced partnership with the MaaS Alliance, illustrate ITS America’s commitment to the safe and seamless movement of people, data, and freight in the 21st century.

“ITS America is thrilled to bring together the public and private sector partners that are shaping the future of Mobility as a Service,” said Shailen Bhatt, President and CEO of ITS America. “In addition to helping people figure out the most cost and time effective way to get around, we will collectively create smarter, more livable communities in which traffic flows more easily.”
