MOIA, a mobility company of the Volkswagen Group, has joined the MaaS Alliance, the leading international public-private Mobility as a Service partnership. This is a major acquisition for the MaaS Alliance, which, since it foundation in 2015, has grown to 96 members from Europe, North America and Asia-Pacific regions.
MOIA offers ridesharing services via app. Its competitive edge is based on a dynamic pooling algorithm that assigns user an existing trip in fractions of a second. Pooling helps to reduce private transport, improve road infrastructure efficiency, prevent emissions and thus to relieve the burden on the environment. With major locations in Berlin and Hamburg, MOIA develops mobility services and works in partnership with cities and local public transport operators. MOIA supplements a city’s existing mobility options by positioning itself between public transport and taxi.

MOIA is already in public operation in Hannover since summer 2018, covering the entire urban area with 80 vehicles. In April 2019, MOIA launched its ridesharing service in Hamburg operating 320 vehicles. This fleet is expected to grow up to 500 vehicles employing about 1.500 drivers in Hamburg. By Joining the MaaS Alliance, MOIA wants to contribute to a radical shift in how people move in cities, complementing public transport and other mobility services to create incentive for citizens to give up private cars.
